Dear Parents and Friends,
Whether you are involved in selecting a secondary school for your son or daughter, applying for a job at Woodlands, or simply trying to find out more about our school, we suggest you begin the process by reading through this brochure. Having read the brochure, we then suggest you visit Woodlands and see the school at work. We offer a warm welcome to all our visitors and want you to see lessons being taught and pupils actively learning. During Open Week, which is held in October each year, we welcome visitors without an appointment but at other times we would appreciate an appointment being made. An appointment can be arranged quite easily over the telephone. We are very proud of our school and do hope that you will use the above opportunities to see us at work. Parents may also wish to view our recent Ofsted report at www.ofsted.gov.uk
Woodlands is committed to providing excellence and therefore our central aim is to raise pupil achievement. Our exam results have improved dramatically over the last few years. We intend that this trend will continue through ensuring that we have high expectations of pupils; employ only the best staff who teach excellent lessons and work in partnership with our parents and our community. As well as academic success we are also committed to ensuring that our pupils have an extensive range of opportunities to participate in extra curricular activities. Our programme in this area of school life is second to none and provides a superb opportunity for pupils to enrich and extend their classsroom learning. We want pupils to leave Woodlands as high achieving individuals, who value education and want to become positive and responsible members of the community.
Pupils only get one chance at education. We are confident that the excellent facilities at Woodlands, combined with outstanding teaching, will ensure that all our pupils reach their potential. We are a school focused on success and in that context, provide an educational programme which stretches pupils of all abilities and values each child as an individual. We pride ourselves on being a listening school, where respect for each other is paramount.
As a popular oversubscribed school, we are conscious of continuing to raise standards and have high expections . Complacency is not a word we want associated with Woodlands! Please do visit - we will be delighted to see you.
Yours sincerely,
Andy White, Headteacher
