EDUCATIONAL PROG
Woodlands School has for many years offered its pupils the subjects which all schools now must offer under the National Curriculum
Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Drama, Dance, Physical Education, French, German, Technology and Personal and Social Education (including Health Education, Careers, Moral Education and Religious Education). Information Technology is a central part of our curriculum and is delivered through individual subjects.
All pupils in Years 10 and 11 follow a curriculum leading to GCSE examinations. Pupils study English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Geography or History, Physical Education, German or French, Personal and Social Education, and Religious Education (although parents have a right to withdraw their children from this subject). Pupils also choose two further subjects from a comprehensive list, which includes Information Technology, Music, Art, Drama, Expressive Arts, Resistant Materials, Graphic Products, Food Studies, Physical Education, Media Studies Geography and a second foreign language. For some pupils we have developed a specialist vocational programme.
It is our intention to enter all pupils for examinations wherever possible. The aims of our curriculum are in accordance with Essex Curriculum Statement and take into consideration the need to offer a broad, balanced, relevant programme of studies which ensures that pupils are able to make progress through each year group. It takes account of all pupils whatever their ability and builds up their knowledge, skills and attitudes.
Our school programme prepares pupils for the demands of the world of work and adult life through the provision of a high quality curriculum, which is supported by a comprehensive Careers Education programme.
