Woodlands School Essex

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Woodlands School has gained a national reputation for our Education Extra programme. This programme offers pupils a wide range of opportunities to develop their abilities and interests. Education Extra Activities include programmes involving Art, Media, Dance, Drama, Music, Foreign Languages, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Humanities, Information Technology and a variety of sports. Pupils are encouraged to participate in the Music, Drama and Dance events that are organised throughout the school year. At least six times a year we run a Saturday Morning Education Extra Extension Morning. The Big Breakfast Club takes place in the Library every morning to support homework and to encourage attendance, pupils are given a free breakfast along with the opportunity to enter a wide range of competitions.

There are educational visits both in this country and abroad. Activities Week in June, where the normal timetable is suspended, provides us with an opportunity for working with the wider community and encouraging residential trips. We regularly organise residential visits to such countries as France, Holland, Spain and Germany as well as a variety of destinations in Britain. Charges for these activities are voluntary and no pupil will be excluded from these on the grounds that families cannot or will not pay the costs. A special fund exists to help families in financial difficulties. A full summary of our charging policy is available from the school.

The Physical Education Department runs teams for Football, Hockey, Netball, Athletics, Cricket, Badminton, Basketball and Rugby in most year groups. Whilst we believe in the virtues of competitive sport we also try to promote an ethos of co-operation, respect and fairness. We actively encourage pupils to represent the school.
