Girls Football

This is a new programme we have set up at Woodlands in partnership with West Ham United Women for the 2017/18 season in order for our elite sportswomen to achieve their potential and follow the school philosophy of pursuing excellence and seizing opportunities.

West Ham United Women will be working in collaboration with Woodlands School to provide female players with a unique environment that encompasses the core values of both the school and the football club. Girls will be encouraged to fully engage with the philosophy to ensure long term development. Together we will develop pupils into self-driven, curious, open-minded learners using pedagogical methods in the coaching sessions.

The football sessions will be led by highly skilled and qualified football coach currently working within the professional West Ham Women set up.

The programme provides aspiring young footballers, serious about their sport, the opportunity to combine regular training with their academic studies. This is a fantastic opportunity for student athletes to improve as players whilst learning more about the game.

The EPD Footballers will be supported and supervised during their academic learning, strength & conditioning programme, technical & tactical development and competitive programmes whilst inspiring the players to live by our core values of Commitment, Humility and discipline.

Pupils will have three sessions a week, one after school on a Monday and two before school on a Tuesday and Wednesday, ensuring a healthy balance between academic achievement and athletic progress.  Each morning session the pupils will be provided with a free nutritious breakfast.

Coaching sessions will look to develop players’ core skills and techniques as well as developing a game understanding.

The group will be:

Junior (U12, U13 & U14)

Technical development (mastering the basic core skills and techniques)

Tactical understanding and Playing Specific Knowledge (including player analysis)

Physical Development (building a body for the game)

Each player will be expected to represent the school in district, county cup and national cup fixtures whilst also being encouraged to play a higher standard of football at club level outside of school, if not already doing so. Their progress will be monitored closely and trials will be offered with professional clubs should the player show they are playing at the level required.

To be considered for the EPD Girls Football programme pupils need to meet 2 out of the 3 criteria.

Criteria for EPD Girls Football:

1. Currently at a Professional Academy or RTC.

2. Currently playing for a grassroots football team.

3. Has played a number of games for the school team.
